Book well ahead
Skip permits in Cambridge are issued by Cambridgeshire County Council, and processing takes at least 10 working days. Only registered skip companies can apply, online, with a risk assessment, and each permit lasts 14 days. The fee isn't published on the council's web page, so ask your supplier what's included in the price.
Resident parking schemes
Cambridge has around two dozen resident parking schemes, including Petersfield, Newnham, Castle and De Freville. A skip in a bay needs arranging with the council, so mention it when you enquire.
Mill Road terraces
Many houses around Mill Road and Romsey open almost straight onto the pavement, with little or no front garden. A skip bag or wait and load collection can suit streets where a skip won't fit.
Cambridge has no Clean Air Zone. Check what can go in a skip before you start: plasterboard and electricals usually need separate collection.
