Only registered operators can apply
Southampton City Council grants skip licences to registered operators holding £10 million public liability insurance, so you can't apply yourself; your supplier does it. A standard skip costs £37 a week, renewed at £37 a week. A roll on roll off container on the highway is £142 for the first week and £34 for each week after.
Bigger jobs

Around the university
Portswood and Highfield, next to the university, have many shared student houses, and the end of the academic year brings a rush of bulky, light waste. Book early in June. For heavy material like soil or hardcore, go smaller, as most suppliers limit how full a larger skip can be loaded with rubble.
Southampton dropped its plans for a charging Clean Air Zone, so there's no daily charge for skip lorries.
