Permits in Stockport
Stockport Council issues the permit for any skip placed on a public road, verge or footway. The skip company must apply for the permit, not you, so ask the supplier whether the permit cost is included in their price and how much notice they need.
A skip on your own drive or private land needs no permit at all, and delivery is usually quicker.
Choosing a size in Stockport
Across the Heatons, Reddish, Cheadle and the terraced streets closer to the centre, the constraint is often the space to put the skip rather than the volume of waste. Measure the spot before booking and ask the supplier for the skip's exact dimensions, allowing room for the lorry to work.
For heavy waste like soil or rubble, most suppliers limit you to a smaller skip, often 6 yards or less, because weight rather than volume is the limit. The size guide works it out from what you are clearing.
