A 28 day permit
Derby City Council's skip permit costs £60 and covers 28 days, and each 28 day extension is another £60. None of it is refundable. Only skip companies can apply, with at least three working days' notice, so your supplier arranges it. The first time a company applies, it must show £2 million public liability insurance and its waste licence.
Where the skip can go
Skips can stand on the road, footway or verge, but residents' parking areas and meter bays are used only when there's nowhere else. Derby also charges a £60 inspection fee for skips that break the conditions, so a responsible supplier matters.
Long jobs
For a renovation that runs longer than a month, remember the permit must be renewed before each 28 days runs out. Many suppliers include one period in the price and charge for extensions.
Derby opted against a charging Clean Air Zone. For what you can and can't load, see what can go in a skip.
