Permits in Liverpool
Liverpool City Council issues the permit for skips standing on a public road, verge or footway. The skip company must apply for the permit on your behalf, ideally at least two working days before delivery, so ask whether the cost is included if the skip cannot go on a driveway.
Access and placement
Much of the housing in Toxteth, Kensington and Anfield is terraced with no off-street parking, so a road permit is the normal case rather than the exception. Check for residents' parking bays and controlled zones before choosing a spot, and ask the supplier whether the council will allow the skip there. Skips in Liverpool city centre must be removed the same day unless they are enclosed lockable skips.
Choosing a size
For a house clearance or kitchen refit an 8 yard is usually right. For heavy waste like soil or rubble, most suppliers limit you to a smaller skip, often 6 yards or less, because weight rather than volume is the limit. The size guide works it out from the waste.
