Only two weeks at a time
Tameside Council's skip permits last two weeks at most, shorter than the 28 days common elsewhere in Greater Manchester. A longer job needs a renewal, so plan exchanges rather than leaving one skip for a month.
Registered or not
Operators can register with the council for £130 a year and then pay £28 per permit; an unregistered firm pays £114. A skip found without a permit costs £84 for a registered firm or £169 for an unregistered one. Large skips need a separate form.
Never on the footpath
Tameside doesn't allow skips on footpaths, so a skip goes on the carriageway with a permit or on your own land without one. On narrow terraced streets, ask about a skip bag or a wait and load collection instead.
See the skip permit guide for the general rules, and skip hire across Greater Manchester for nearby boroughs.
