Registered firms pay less
Salford City Council charges skip permits on a sliding scale, and firms registered with the council pay less. From April 2026, a registered operator pays £20.76 for a domestic skip, £40 for a commercial one and £72.66 for a skip over 12 cubic yards, each for up to 28 days. An unregistered firm pays £41.52, £80 and £103.80. Only the skip company can apply.
Skips placed without a permit
A skip found on the road without a permit costs from £41.52 to £133.80, and the council can recharge the cost of removing it. That's a good reason to use an operator who handles the permit as part of the job. Skips on the road must carry red and yellow reflective plates and be lit at night.
A growing Quays
MediaCity and Salford Quays are set to keep growing, with thousands more homes planned. If you're fitting out or clearing a flat there, ask your building management where a skip can stand before you book.
