Gateshead's permit options

Gateshead Council's standard skip permit costs £40 for up to 28 days. Operators who join the council's scheme pay less, and members can get a same-day permit if they apply before 3pm. A retrospective permit costs £130. Operators need a waste carrier licence and £5 million public liability insurance.

No verges in winter

From October to March, skips aren't allowed on grass verges at all, and from April to September a verge permit lasts only 14 days. On estates where the verge is the only space, plan around the season or use your drive.

Crossing the river

The Tyne, Swing, High Level and Redheugh bridges are in the Tyneside Clean Air Zone, where a non-compliant lorry pays £50 a day. A supplier coming from the Newcastle side may factor that in. See skip hire across Tyne and Wear.
