Ten working days' notice
The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead needs at least 10 working days' notice for a skip licence, longer than almost anywhere nearby. Only companies registered with the council, at £110 a year, can apply. Book early: a skip placed without a licence brings a £600 fine, and each breach of the conditions £250.
Size and placement
Skips can be no more than 5 metres long and 2 metres wide. With 27 conservation areas, including Inner Windsor, Windsor Town Centre, Maidenhead Riverside and Maidenhead Town Centre, placement often needs extra care.
The river and royal events
The Environment Agency has a flood warning area for the Thames at Maidenhead, Bray, Dorney, Windsor and Eton, so avoid leaving a skip on low ground when a warning is in force.
