Road licences
Any skip on the road in the Wakefield district needs a road licence from Wakefield Council. The council doesn't publish the fee for private operators on its website, so ask your supplier whether it's included in their price.
The council also hires skips
Unusually, Wakefield Council runs its own skip hire. A midi skip costs £152 for up to 4 days and a maxi skip £247 for up to 7 days, with £32.13 added if it goes on the road. It's worth comparing with local private suppliers, who may offer longer hire periods or different sizes.
Conservation areas
The district has 31 conservation areas, including Pontefract Castle and Market Place, two in Ossett, one in Castleford and Westgate and Wood Street in the city centre. In these streets, placement matters, so describe the location when you enquire.
