Getting a licence
Milton Keynes City Council issues skip licences through its online portal. A licence costs £70 for 7 days, then £41.50 for each further 7 days, both plus VAT. Most people still let the supplier arrange it, as they know the conditions.
The placement rules
The council's conditions are specific:
- at least 10 metres from a junction
- at least 20 metres from a bus stop
- not on a footway or verge unless the licence allows it
- in a controlled parking zone, only in a parking bay, never a disabled or loading bay
Grid squares and drives
Many homes in the grid squares have driveways or parking courts, and a skip on private land needs no licence, but check it won't block neighbours' access in a shared court. Redways are shared paths for walking and cycling, and the council's conditions don't allow a skip on a footway or verge unless the licence says so, so keep the skip clear of them.
