Never on the pavement
Plymouth City Council doesn't allow skips on the pavement at all. A skip goes either on the road, with a licence, or on private land such as a drive, which needs no licence. That rules out some spots that would be fine elsewhere, so describe where you want it when you enquire.
Skip bags need a licence too
In Plymouth, skip bags such as hippo-style bags also need a licence if they're placed on the highway, and missing lights or markings can bring a fine of up to £1,000. The council takes applications online; its pages don't publish the fee, so ask the supplier whether the licence is included in the price.
Steep streets and older terraces
Some of Plymouth's older terraced streets are steep, with no off-road space. Check the lorry can reach and that the skip will sit level. The size guide will tell you which size you need.
Plymouth has no Clean Air Zone, so there's no daily charge on skip lorries.
